POLITICAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE

The Political Education Committee (PEC) ensures there is equality for all minority group citizens in all political aspects. This committee seeks to enforce federal, state and local laws securing civil rights and to educate persons about their constitutional rights. Additionally, PEC is responsible for the coordination and execution of the Detroit Branch NAACP’s Get Out to Vote efforts.
As the election cycle continues, this is an important year and the Political Education Committee will be diligent in ensuring that people are not only registered to vote, but also well-educated on the issues and the process. Additionally, PEC will further increase its attention on the mobilization aspect to increase voter turnout. Overall, PEC wants to protect the right to vote so access to the ballot box remains unhindered.
The Political Education committee meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm. Please consider joining us!
YOUNG ADULT COMMITTEE
Kamilia Landrum, Chair
The Detroit Branch NAACP’s Young Adult Committee (YAC) coordinates outreach programs to bring more young people into the Association. This committee provides a great platform for young people to develop leadership skills and understand a more in-depth level of the importance of the NAACP. Since its inception, YAC has been a very high energy committee filled with young people who are committed to making a change. Members of the committee also serve as advisors and mentors for senior and youth groups. Additionally, they act as community advocates that are concerned about well-being of our age group.
YAC is open to anyone that would like to participate. Primarily, our target range is for the 18 – 35 age group; however we welcome anyone that wants to participate.
YAC meets every 1st Tuesday of the month at the Detroit Branch NAACP office (8220 Second Ave.Detroit, MI) at 6:00PM.
LEGAL REDRESS COMMITTEE
The Legal Redress Committee (LRC) investigates all cases reported, supervises all litigation in which the Detroit Branch NAACP holds interest, and serves as a liaison to the National Office. It is composed of volunteer licensed attorney’s that care about the well-being of our communities. Additionally, members of the LRC sponsor events to educate our communities on changes in the judicial system or encounters with law enforcement.
