Kamilia K. Landrum

Ms. Kamilia K. Landrum, is the Executive Director for the Detroit Branch NAACP and is the youngest person to be appointed to this position in the history of this organization. The centerpiece of her work is expanding high-quality programming for the Detroit Branch NAACP’s key development areas which are: education, economic sustainability, criminal justice, civic engagement and health, and health care access. She also manages strategic partnerships for the organization, and all membership services for the Branch’s 20,000 members. She is a member emeritus of the National Board of Directors for the NAACP serving as Vice Chair of the National Youth Work Committee, Vice Chair of the Image Awards Committee and a member of the Finance and Audit Committees respectively. In her local chapter, she served as Advisor to the Detroit NAACP Youth Council and Chair of the Detroit Branch NAACP Young Adult Committee for six years. Additionally, she is the 3rd Vice President for the Michigan State Conference NAACP.

Prior to becoming the Executive Director, Ms. Landrum’s outstanding leadership and administrative skills allowed her to play a significant role in executing many of the Branch’s signature programs including the Branch’s Centennial Celebration in 2012; the Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner; and marches, rallies and public demonstrations from Selma, Alabama to Washington D.C. She has mentored and engaged over 500 students through the organizations’ youth and education initiatives and worked diligently to increase voter participation during all election cycles.

Ms. Landrum graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in the Spring of 2012 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). During her studies, she was a member of Student Government Association and served as Chair of the Organization and Finance Committee, Chair of the Activity and Service Fee Budget Committee, and Chair of the Judicial and Rules Committee. Additionally, she served as Chair of the Fight for Freedom Fund Banquet for the FAMU NAACP Chapter, and Treasurer of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Through these experiences, Ms. Landrum managed over $3 million dollars in school funding initiatives and executed over 50 community service events and educational experiences while a student at FAMU.

Ms. Landrum’s zeal for education, advocacy, and community development led her to Wayne State University to complete her Master of Public Administration with a focus in Nonprofit Policy and Management in May of 2015. Since returning home in 2012, Kamilia has continued to serve her community as a member of the Southfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Health Alliance Plan Community Advisory Council, Detroit Sports Zone Advisory Board, M1-Rail Community Advisory Council, and Alumni Chair for New Leaders Council Detroit. Most recently her work has earned recognition from the Michigan Chronicle as a 40 under 40 awardee and Walker’s Legacy Power25 for women in business. In addition to her work with the Detroit Branch NAACP, she owns Staged Spaces LLC, an event planning and design firm in Detroit, MI.

Ms. Landrum believes that giving back to her community is a requirement for the blessings she has received. She hopes to leave a legacy that demonstrates the benefits of keeping God first and following his commandments. She is the proud and only daughter of songwriter and playwright, Apostle Dr. Thomas I. Butler, and songwriter and gospel recording artist, Pastor Kim Butler. She guides her life by the scripture, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jer. 29:11.
